How is the electricity bill generated in Ongrid Solar System?

On grid solar system is also called grid tied or grid connected solar system. Through this, electricity is produced from solar energy. It is designed in such a way that it can be connected directly to the power grid.

This system uses photovoltaic panels, inverters, electrical cables and grid connection. Being directly connected to the utility grid, additional power can also be taken from the solar panel when needed.

On grid solar system allows consumers to generate their own electricity. This is different from off grid solar system which is based on the arrangement of storing solar energy.

On-grid solar system is a popular and efficient way to generate solar energy while being directly connected to the electrical grid. This system allows the user to generate their own electricity mainly using solar panels.

Along with this, on-grid solar system also has the facility to send any excess or unused electricity back to the grid. Here we are going to tell you how an on-grid solar system works -

Solar Panel (Photovoltaic Module)

The most important component of an on-grid solar system is the solar panel. It is powered by photovoltaic (PV) modules.

These panels consist of several solar cells made of semiconductors (of which silicon is the main one), which are capable of converting sunlight into electricity through photovoltaic technology.

This system converts sunlight into DC current.

Inverter

The direct current (DC current) generated by solar panels through photovoltaic modules is sent to the inverter through electrical wires.

The inverter is an important part of the on-grid solar system. Because it converts the incoming direct current into alternating current (AC).

The electricity used in our homes and other businesses is usually alternating current.

Use of electricity

The electricity converted by the inverter is for direct use by the consumer.

This electricity is used to run electrical appliances in buildings and other businesses.

If the solar panel produces more electricity than the consumer consumes, the remaining excess electricity is sent back to the electricity grid by the solar system.

Net Meter

To keep a proper record of the electricity produced and used by the solar system and the excess electricity sent back to the electricity grid, a net meter is installed after the solar system.

It is similar to the meter used in our homes. The net meter accurately measures the flow of electricity in both directions. It ensures proper billing especially at the time of exchange of surplus electricity.

Grid Connection

The electric grid is a very important part of the on-grid solar system. This electric grid is connected to the on-grid solar system through a connection point.

It also ensures uninterrupted flow of electricity.

If the solar system produces less electricity than the total consumption, the surplus electricity can be drawn from the electric grid as per the demand.

Utility Interaction or Feed-in Tariff

This is beneficial for consumers who generate more electricity than their consumption.

On doing so, the Indian government and many private companies also pay tariff to the producer for the excess electricity generated by the user.

In this way the Indian government encourages users to generate electricity from solar systems as much as possible.

Monitoring and Control

Monitoring and control systems are incorporated in on-grid solar systems to ensure the smooth performance of the on-grid solar system and track the electricity generation from the solar panel.

These systems provide real-time data on energy production, consumption, and grid interaction so that users can monitor the performance of the system and make appropriate decisions.

In a solar on-grid system, the electricity produced by your solar panels directly supplies your home loads or appliances. If the electricity produced by your solar panels is less than your home consumption, the remaining electricity comes from the grid, and you have to pay the electricity bill for that.

But if your solar panel produces more power than you need, that excess power is sent to the grid. For this, you get credit from the power company, which gets adjusted in your next bill.

This whole process happens through net metering, in which you have to pay bill only for the power that you consume from the grid. Meaning, if your solar system covers the entire bill, then your electricity bill can be zero or very low.

The rate charged for solar power in Rajasthan depends on your electricity provider and your consumption slab. In Rajasthan, if your solar system sends more power to the grid, you get around ₹2.25 per unit for that power (this rate may also change over time.

These rates may vary for residential and commercial consumers. So, for correct and updated rates, you can check with your electricity company.
