The Indian government has launched a Star Labelling Program for solar modules in order to indicate their quality and energy efficiency. The program, which was developed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), will be in effect from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2025.

Under the program, solar modules will be rated on a scale of 1 to 5 stars, with 5 stars being the most efficient. The star rating will be based on the module's power output, temperature coefficient, and degradation rate.

The government has said that the Star Labelling Program will help consumers make informed decisions about which solar modules to purchase. It is also expected to encourage manufacturers to produce more efficient solar modules.

The program is voluntary for the first two years, but it is expected to become mandatory after that.

The government has said that the Star Labelling Program is expected to have a significant impact on the solar industry. It is estimated that the program could lead to an increase in solar module efficiency of 2%. This would result in an additional 33 GWh of electricity generation per year.

The government has also said that the Star Labelling Program could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 30 million tonnes per year by 2030.

The Star Labelling Program is a welcome move by the Indian government. It is expected to help promote the use of solar energy in India and contribute to the country's goal of achieving 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
